Project: Can SoloIstanbul based independent artist Can Demirok
balances the experimental thoughts of other members
of the label ‘Caffeination’ with retro sounds based off
punk, grunge, shoegaze, indie, and other alternative
bands. In an age which is saturated with music genres,
Demirok celebrates his love for specific scenes which
may otherwise become lost in the flow of history to all
but their most avid followers. For Can Solo, he bases
his sound off household names like My Bloody Valen-
tine, Interpol, Jesus and Mary Chain and classic rock
such as the Kinks and the Rolling Stones, as well as
smaller bands such as Brian Jonestown Massacre,
Galaxie 500 and Guided by Voices.
His first release, Just a Thrill, is an uplifting and
energetic homage to alternative rock and indie, with a
pulsing bass riff and high guitar lines reminiscent of the
Happy Mondays managing to balance moodiness and
melancholy with energy and momentum. The initial
single provides a window into the depths of Demirok’s
love for his influences and desire to carry to torch of
their music to an emergence of adoring fans. With
husky vocals, he combines world-weariness and rau-
cous energy as the song fades out, mingling with a
synth riff to give it an alternative 80s edge.
With plenty of his experience from two previous
projects – The Cold Streaks and To My Lonely Sik Kid
